Since 2015, Sky Tents has emerged as a market leader in the tenting industry, manufacturing and supplying a wide range of high-quality tents and event equipment for every occasion. Today, we have expanded our offering to include a selection of jumping castles, tables and chairs, draping, mobile chillers and so much more, giving South Africans easy access to everything they need for an unforgettable event.
But all companies have to start somewhere, and for Sky Tents, our story began with our founder and CEO, Isaac Mbatha.
Born in KwaMashu, Durban, in 1991, Isaac got his start in business at an early age by helping his father run his businesses. Growing up in an environment of hard workers, Isaac quickly developed an entrepreneurial mindset, selling sweets and other goodies to his classmates at school to raise funds of his own.
After Matriculating, Isaac apprenticed at Eskom in Mpumalanga, saving up enough money to start his first business. While spending time in his local neighbourhood in KwaMashu, he noticed that tents were being put up every weekend, for weddings, parties, umembeso and more. Seeing a gap in the market, Isaac began washing tents when the events were over, and quickly expanded into tent repair.
Isaac soon realised he had a knack for tent repair and started to explore the possibility of manufacturing them himself, researching everything required to make a high-quality tent from scratch. And in 2015, he took a leap of faith and founded Sky Tents, which has grown from strength to strength ever since.
Since founding Sky Tents, Isaac has been recognised as one of Forbes Africa’s 30 under 30 entrepreneurs and innovators, was a candidate for the Africa Choice Awards Young Entrepreneur of the Year, and was presented with the Standard Bank Entrepreneur Resilience Award in 2022.
Building on two decades of combined experience, Sky Tents has expanded to include nine branches across South Africa, and employs around 60 people. With a dynamic entrepreneur such as Isaac at the helm, there is no doubt that the company will continue to grow and develop for many years to come.
